Google Awards Gamuda a Second Contract for Their $2 Billion Data Center in Malaysia

Google has inked a MYR 1 billion (about USD 236 million) contract with Malaysian contractor Gamuda to develop a hyperscale data center in Port Dickson, Malaysia.
Google has awarded its local contractor Gamuda a second major assignment in Malaysia, inking a MYR 1 billion (about USD 236 million) contract to develop a hyperscale data center in Port Dickson, the companies said in a joint filing.
The work, to be handled by Gamuda DC Infrastructure, a unit of Kuala Lumpur’s Gamuda Berhad, covers the construction of both the data center and an onsite water treatment plant designed to supply 65 million liters of water daily for cooling operations. In a parallel transaction, Gamuda DC will sell 389 acres of land to Google’s Pearl Computing Malaysia for MYR 455 million (USD 107 million). The site lies roughly 90 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur.
This award follows a MYR 1.7 billion deal struck in May 2024 for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work at Google’s planned data campus in Selangor’s Elmina Business Park. The contracts come as Google proceeds with a USD 2 billion investment to establish its first data and cloud region in Malaysia, part of a broader push across Southeast Asia by major cloud providers.
Analysts say the growth of hyperscale facilities in Malaysia reflects rising demand for cloud services in the region. “Google’s continued investment underlines Malaysia’s attractiveness as a digital hub,” said an industry consultant who tracks data center projects across Asia. As Google expands capacity, local suppliers such as Gamuda stand to benefit from the long-term construction pipeline.
