Localized Innovation Redefines HR Technology in Asia: Regional R&D and Ecosystems Challenge Global Models
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung at SAP Labs Vietnam R&D Center opening.
Asia’s enterprise software landscape is moving away from a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Companies are establishing regional R&D hubs and designing solutions to meet cultural, linguistic, and regulatory needs. These efforts reflect broader trends in HR technology in Asia for 2025, emphasizing local talent development and market-specific strategies.
SAP Labs Vietnam
SAP announced a new R&D hub in Ho Chi Minh City, committing over €150 million over five years. The facility will employ 500 staff by 2027, focusing on Business AI for sustainable digital supply chains and intelligent enterprise solutions tailored for Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia. This hub represents a strategic investment in HR technology market growth in Asia.
GoTo Group’s Sahabat-AI
Indonesia’s GoTo Group launched Sahabat-AI, a 70-billion-parameter model fully trained and hosted in Indonesia. Supporting Bahasa Indonesia and regional languages, the model enables applications across banking, manufacturing, and retail. This initiative demonstrates HR innovation in Asia and the operational advantages of locally developed AI.
HDFC Bank and VinFast Collaboration
HDFC Bank partnered with VinFast to offer tailored auto and inventory financing solutions in India. This collaboration illustrates how localized digital partnerships can strengthen regional business ecosystems and foster economic resilience.
Together, these initiatives show that Asia is not just consuming technology but actively shaping its HR innovation landscape. Regional R&D, local language AI models, and strategic partnerships will be key themes at HRTCA 2025 in Manila.
