Asia Moves Quickly to Regulate AI’s Expanding Role in the Workplace
At the IndiaAI Mission anniversary in March 2025, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the IndiaAI compute portal and AIKosh dataset platform – part of a nationwide effort to make Indian GPU capacity the world’s most affordable and to underpin governance frameworks now emerging across Asia’s workplaces.
Governments across the Asia-Pacific are introducing regulatory frameworks to address the rapid growth of artificial intelligence. These initiatives aim to encourage innovation while protecting citizens, signaling a new stage in AI governance.
Singapore’s AI Verify Foundation has launched an open-source testing framework to assess AI models for fairness, robustness, and accountability. By making its tools publicly available, the foundation provides a practical model that other countries can adapt. Although adoption is voluntary, companies in Singapore may find that using these frameworks offers a competitive edge in the HR software market, particularly in building digital trust in HR.
In India, the Ministry of Electronics & IT has released draft guidelines promoting a “trusted AI” approach. These call for transparency and explainability in AI systems, especially in hiring and performance management. The proposals tie directly to enterprise AI implementation strategies and address bias detection and mitigation in AI-powered HR applications.
The Philippines is also exploring AI’s impact on the workforce. The Department of Labor and Employment is conducting a study on ethical AI use in labor and automation. The aim is to prepare workers for technological changes while ensuring HR innovation in Asia serves both employers and employees.
Together, these developments mark an acceleration in digital HR transformation across the region. Regulatory frameworks and voluntary governance models will be key discussion points at HR Technology Congress Asia 2025 in Manila, alongside broader HR technology trends for 2025 in Asia.
