ESG Capital Is Reshaping AI Investment in Asia

Institutional investors are increasingly aligning AI-related capital allocation with sustainability principles. In the Asia-Pacific region, this has translated into substantial commitments toward ESG-compliant infrastructure projects supporting artificial intelligence development.
A key example is the AI Infrastructure Partnership (AIP), formed by Microsoft, BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners, and Temasek Holdings. The partnership, announced in June 2025, aims to mobilize up to USD 100 billion in capital and debt financing for next-generation data centers and associated energy systems.
According to Ravi Lambah, Head of Strategic Initiatives at Temasek, the move reflects a broader investment philosophy prioritizing long-term value creation and alignment with transformative technological trends. The emphasis on infrastructure highlights how AI investment in Asia is increasingly routed through data center development and energy integration.
Reports from institutions such as Fidelity International and Temasek Trust reinforce this trend. Their recent publications emphasize that managing environmental and climate-related risks is not only consistent with institutional mandates but also enhances long-term financial performance. The World Economic Forum has similarly underscored the growing importance of sustainable digital infrastructure as a national priority.
This focus on ESG standards is influencing how sovereign wealth funds and other institutional capital sources approach AI infrastructure in Asia. Projects perceived as lacking environmental or governance alignment may increasingly face challenges in attracting long-term funding.
