Global Funds Drive AI Data Center Growth in Asia
Temasek-owned Seviora Holdings and Mubadala Capital formalized a strategic co-investment partnership – an example of how global investors are accelerating commitments to Asia’s AI data center infrastructure.
Global investors are accelerating their commitments to Asia’s digital infrastructure, shifting capital from traditional assets toward the build-out of AI data centers. The pace and scale of these moves suggest that the region is becoming central to the strategies of sovereign funds, private equity firms, and infrastructure specialists.
Sovereign wealth capital leads the way
Temasek and Mubadala have both deepened allocations to digital infrastructure funds focused on Southeast Asia. A new Memorandum of Understanding between Mubadala Capital and Temasek-owned Seviora Holdings formalizes co-investment opportunities, allowing the funds to pursue deals jointly in Asia and beyond. The partnership highlights a closer alignment between state-backed capital and private asset managers, combining scale with expertise to pursue long-term infrastructure growth.
Private equity pursues scale expansion
KKR-backed Pinnacle Towers announced a $500 million expansion plan across Asia. The company will use the capital to advance “build-to-suit” tower projects, designed to meet growing mobile data and connectivity needs. In parallel, the platform secured new investment from the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), a major Canadian pension fund. The move underscores continuing appetite for telecommunications infrastructure, which analysts describe as a prerequisite for large-scale AI adoption.
Infrastructure specialists target renewables-backed data centers
Brookfield has signaled new investment in renewable-powered data centers in India. The strategy extends its traditional infrastructure model into AI-focused workloads, combining digital and clean energy assets. With power supply now a critical bottleneck, Brookfield’s approach positions it to meet rising GenAI data center requirements while aligning with investor demand for ESG-linked assets.
Taken together, these moves show that sovereign wealth funds, private equity, and infrastructure investors are not only allocating to the sector but actively shaping its development. Asia’s hyperscale data centers are increasingly viewed as both a strategic necessity and a long-term investment opportunity.
