Temasek, BlackRock, and the Rise of Capital-Grade Sustainable AI Infrastructure
Temasek’s NPV increase in its July 2025 financial disclosure underscores the scale and momentum behind Singapore’s AI infrastructure investment strategy.
In a major signal to the global investment community, Temasek Holdings and BlackRock have announced their participation in the AI Infrastructure Partnership (AIP), an initiative aimed at mobilizing up to $100 billion in AI-focused infrastructure capital. Microsoft and Nvidia are among the other key participants, with a focus on building sustainable data centers and clean energy ecosystems.
This initiative goes beyond traditional ESG commitments. The partners are positioning sustainability as a requirement, not an optional value-add, for infrastructure projects underpinning AI development. Ravi Lambah of Temasek emphasized the strategic importance of aligning AI infrastructure with long-term environmental and economic resilience.
The AIP focuses on areas such as renewable energy, grid optimization, battery storage, and data center efficiency. With AI workloads projected to double data center energy use by 2030, the fund’s goals are as much about capacity as they are about sustainability. BlackRock’s participation signals that mainstream asset managers now view green infrastructure as a financial imperative.
For Asia-Pacific investors and policymakers, this fund sets a new bar for what qualifies as “bankable” infrastructure in the AI age.
