ADB Reports Record $8 Billion in Clean Energy Co-Financing and Launches New India Program
ADB and GEAPP commit $35 million toward accelerating clean energy access in Asia during the World Bank Spring Meetings, a precursor to the bank’s record $8 billion co-financing milestone.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) reported $8 billion in co-financing for private sector-led clean energy projects in 2024. This represents the highest level of such funding mobilized by the institution to date.
The announcement was made on May 27, 2025. ADB also launched a new financing initiative for India on July 3, 2025, in partnership with the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The initiative aims to expand access to renewable energy and climate-resilient infrastructure in the country.
The co-financing supports a range of initiatives across Asia, including solar, wind, and sustainable infrastructure projects. ADB has highlighted its strategy to use financial instruments to reduce risk for private investors and attract additional capital to the region’s energy transition.
ADB Director Pradeep Tharakan noted that the focus now includes efforts to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors, in addition to scaling up traditional renewable energy projects.
