Indonesia Invests $400 Million in Quantum AI Data Center to Advance Sovereign Compute
Todotua Pasaribu, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Investment, signals Batam’s rise on the AI infrastructure map, positioning the country as a regional sovereign compute leader.
Indonesia has formally committed $400 million (roughly 6 trillion rupiah) to build a quantum AI data center in Batam, marking a significant move in the region’s race toward sovereign AI infrastructure. The announcement, made on July 9, 2025, highlights Indonesia’s goal of becoming a key digital economy player by 2045 and underscores Batam’s strategic role in the Asia-Pacific data center map.
The initiative is being led by Worldvuer iByond Limited, a Silicon Valley-based company specializing in quantum computing, big data analytics, and AI operating systems. The project will be housed within the Tunas Prima Industrial Estate in Batam, supported by renewable energy infrastructure and advanced water treatment systems. It will serve as Worldvuer’s first Asia-based facility, following previous expansions in Silicon Valley and the Middle East.
The Indonesian Ministry of Investment and the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) are backing the development, which aligns with national ambitions for 8% economic growth. Deputy Minister of Investment Todotua Pasaribu emphasized the project as a cornerstone for digital transformation and GDP expansion, projecting AI could contribute up to $366 billion annually by 2030.
This investment also positions Indonesia among countries prioritizing sovereign compute infrastructure, alongside Singapore and South Korea. According to recent IDC and Synergy Research estimates, Southeast Asia’s data center capacity has surpassed 500 MW as of late 2023, with projections suggesting the region could exceed $100 billion in valuation by 2030. Tax incentives, including import duty exemptions and multi-year holidays, have made Indonesia increasingly attractive for high-tech infrastructure developers.
