Singapore Issues GenAI Governance Guidelines to Reinforce Trust and Compliance
Singapore's Minister for Communications and Information, Josephine Teo, launches the AI Verify Foundation, reinforcing the country’s lead in responsible AI governance.
Singapore is taking a lead role in regional AI governance by issuing comprehensive guidelines aimed at ensuring the responsible and transparent deployment of generative AI technologies. Spearheaded by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the AI Verify Foundation, the framework is designed to help developers and enterprises navigate compliance, trust, and ethical considerations.
Launched in February 2025 and refined throughout the year, the guidelines cover key areas such as data accountability, algorithmic fairness, explainability, and technical verification standards. The effort complements Singapore’s broader push to reinforce its status as a trusted regional hub for digital infrastructure.
The move comes amid growing concern over the potential risks of GenAI, particularly in terms of data misuse and model integrity. According to the 2025 Thales Global Data Threat Report, AI-related security vulnerabilities have emerged as a top issue among Asia-Pacific enterprises, many of which are accelerating AI investments faster than their compliance readiness.
Singapore’s AI governance model is seen as a proactive response to these trends, offering a roadmap for balancing innovation with responsible deployment. It also sets a precedent for other Asia-Pacific economies facing similar infrastructure and regulatory pressures.
